I'm not going to live in a fantasy that I didn't have another alternative, but sometimes you make a mistake. My mistake was not seeing the logical fallacy of trusting something that appeared as an authority but was really a probability-calculator telling me how to make my writing palatable. This was poorly understood at the time and I'm just grateful I was able to notice the double-standard "advice" early on into taking writing seriously before I was able to course-correct back. In a way, it took advantage of my ignorance with literary English to aggressively confound any of the character I might actually bring to it.
On a personal note, thanks ! I really felt as though people would read this one and roll their eyes at me.

that aside. i'm glad i actually got it instead of projecting severely on you, lol. it's always a fear when it comes to matter such as this, so close to heart and mind alike
i think it's a shared experience but not much talked about as ESL isn't seen as... i don't know, a choice? english is a requirement and whatever feelings you have about that or about english as a language or about intersection of your native language and the way you speak english do not matter. this is a bit hyperbolic, but i hope it can somewhat describe what i mean
yeah, mistakes can be done by/can happen to anyone - what's done is done. in the beginning, with all its aggressive marketing and lack of proper information (besides the promotional material provided by the AI companies), it was very easy to fall into the trap of using it for many, many different things; especially if you're the type of person whom values a variety in feedback. and, as you said, (heavilyyyyyy paraphrasing) it was touted as mind of the internet - with its knowledge /and/ ability to think. for someone who's determined to get the best they can be in, e.g., writing - it makes sense to try it out, and use it - until a harsh awakening, when you realize what you've been sold is empty promises. i know many people who used it for various things and then stopped when they realised what load of bullshit all of it is (be it the functionality, the scraping of people's data, the environmental impact, etc). i hope it's a consolation that you aren't special.
although, i feel like there's a silver lining to that situation - you are now much more sure in your own writing voice, which is a delight to see in your work.
hah, i know the feeling. but no, no rolling eyes - at least not from me. this entire chain of events is entirely logical, given the circumstances and timing; and the stuff you spoke about (rest and finding your voice and developing a relationship with your creations) served both to create a comprehensive whole from the article-writing standpoint, and as a valuable reminder/lesson for fellow creatives from your own mistake(s)/experience. yeah, someone might roll their eyes, but it could also be a great reminder and/or lesson for someone - so thank you for writing /and/ sharing it.
(also, if something doesn't make sense, i'm blaming the time AND weather both. it's four-something AM and im still lowkey boiling 🔥)

Believe me, I have so very many opinions about English-as-lingua-franca. Ones I shall not leave contextless in a comment but. I have them.
Yes, it is tremendous consolation to not be unique in this. And it's such a weight off my shoulders to just finally say "write however." Of course, perhaps the writing persona doesn't have "mass appeal" but I've never had mass appeal in anything I do and here I am, doing well enough that I can continue to be an artist every day.
However, yes, that was precisely it. To many people, it was 100% a logical thing to try out until the dirty underbelly surfaced. And I worry for young people who maybe haven't had the experience yet to judge it counter to something and think it's truly omniscient. (I've had a friend in a uni tell me they heard kids asking GPT what their next classes are, as if it would know)
In short though, there is a silver lining. You are so correct.

honestly, i believe that a) there's an audience for everything, and b) considering how far-reaching internet is, there's enough people around the world to make niches populated enough to provide for both creators and the audience. it may be too optimistic of me, but i'm trying to hold onto hope (and your continued existence as a relatively niche creator is one of things fueling it, tbh)
with that in mind, i do think it's too narrow minded to try and go for mass appeal; most often, people dilute the essence of their work trying to appeal to the most average "consumer", and lose the audience that would actually enjoy their work for what it is. something something sanding off the edges. i'm sure you get the point.
aaaand that is all to say, yet again, i'm happy you're focusing on what you *want* to create now.
